Repeal the Rent Act demonstration
The Rent Act was passed by the Conservative Government in 1957. It was designed to resolve the problems of housing shortages however it increased the maximum figures chargeable for properties which increased rents and encouraged unscrupulous landlords to double or triple rents. There were many demonstrations against the Act this one took place in on 15th September in Trafalgar Square.
