King Georges Park, Wandsworth
Children playing on swings in St George's Park. In 1947 Wandsworth council introduced a scheme providing play facilities for children in the borough's parks. This was to encourage children to play in the parks and not on the streets. The scheme was led by Harry Pearce a former physical training instructor for the Army. It was very popular and statistics kept by the council showed that the facilities were used more than 100,000 times by children during the summer. This photograph was taken in the early 1950s and demonstrates that the play facilities were still being well used.
