Trainee engine drivers emptying the smokebox char, Kentish town
Trainee engine drivers at Kentish Town Motive Power Works depot. The worker standing on the engine is emptying the smokebox ‘char’, along with replenishing the water and coal this was one of the first jobs completed when an engine arrived at the depot for repairs or servicing.
