Gelatin silver print
This photo of Gertie Millar (1879-1952) by Rita Martin might show the musical comedy star in her role as Prudence Pym in 'The Quaker Girl'. The production was Millar's first appearance in the Adelphi Theatre, which had been taken over by the impressario George Edwardes in 1908. 'The Quaker Girl' ran from 5 November 1910 to 11 April 1912 for a staggering 536 performances.
Gertie Millar wears the same gloves as in another portrait which is definitely associated with 'The Quaker Girl'. The plot involves Prudcence travelling to Paris to model quaker clothes for a French fashion house. This somewhat medieval-looking ensemble might stem from this scene.
