Covent Garden market, 1952
Woman (probably a stall holder) resting on a chair in Covent Garden Market. The market was constructed in stages between 1828 and 1904. It was London’s principal market for flowers and fresh fruit and vegetables and thousands attended every day. The market was moved to 'New Covent Garden Market' at Nine Elms in Wandsworth in 1974 due to the massive congestion it caused.
