Blackout
Boardgame entitled 'Blackout'. Comprising a games board printed with a road map of central London, 2 dice, four paper vehicles on wood base representing a taxi, lorry, van & saloon car & a set of associated playing cards. The game refers to the 'Blackout', the enforced darkening of buildings and streets during World War II. It was intended to provide the public with information about the Blackout rules and encourage them to abide by the strict regulations that were, at times, unpopular.
Although large-scale toy manufacture in the UK ceased during World War II as factory production focused on the war effort, the production of games and toys such as 'Blackout', that provided public information or could be used as propaganda, was permitted and even encouraged by the government.
