Printed Ephemera — 1967
Flyer, handbill, programme
Double sided flyer and programme for the Marquee Club, 90 Wardour Street. Printed primarily in black and white on cream paper, the heading 'Marquee Club' has a yellow/orange border. On one side are printed details of admission & membership and news about Friday night at the club becoming blues night. There is also a small photo of the club's resident blues band Ten Years After. On the reverse is printed a monthly programme listing, in two columns what bands/performers are appearing at the club each day in October 1967. Bands listed include Geno Washington, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall's Blues breakers. Of most significance, however, was the appearance of the 'Jimmy Hendrix Experience' on Tuesday 24th. This was one of only two public performances by Hendrix at the club.
This programme represents a significant period in the history of the Marquee club that had moved from Oxford Street to 90 Wardour Street three years earlier in 1964. By this time the club had become the most important music venue in London for emerging rock and jazz bands. The programmes bear witness to the club's role in 'discovering' a number of artists & bands such as Jimi Hendrix, Cream and The Nice.
