Students at the Shoreditch Training College
Students making adjustments to garments on dressmakers dummys in Shoreditch College in 1958. The school was unique as a teacher training institution because of its focus on handicraft. It was created to improve the standards of those teaching in London’s manual training centers. In 1907 the college moved from Hoxton to a semi-rural location at Cooper's Hill, Englefield Green, Surrey although it was still funded by the London County council. In contrast to the cramped buildings in Hoxton, the new site consisted of 60 acres of land and overlooked the Thames and Windsor Castle.
