Printed Ephemera — 1967-06
Simon Star
Copy of the 'Simon Star' for June 1967, the newspaper of the Simon Community. This organisation works with homeless people. The headline article tells of the plight of the Connors, a family of Irish Travellers with eight children whose father was imprisoned. This story highlights problems commonly encountered by 'the diverse mixture of 15,000 people (about 3,400 families) known as 'gipsies' but including travelling people far removed from Romany [...]They are in constant conflict with authority, increasingly so as their traditional haunts are swallowed up by the pace of urban development.'
