London's Forgotten Army..The Cleaners
The Greater London Council (GLC) published this leaflet as part of their London Industrial Strategy, which addressed the capital's economic strategies in relation to social need. It was one in a series of 22 covering different industries. This leaflet specifically addresses the cleaning industry, and states that 'London's cleaners are a vast, hidden army whose work is all too often under-valued and underpaid'. It also acknowledges that many cleaners are women from minority groups who are disadvantaged in the labour market.
