A gold statue of Buddha decorates this bookmark, issued to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Buddhist Society. The lawyer Christmas Humphreys founded the Buddhist Society in 1924. Its headquarters are now in Pimlico. The society's website states that 'The Object of the Society is to publish and make known the principles of the major Buddhist Schools and traditions and to encourage the study and practice of those principles.' The Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader currently living in exile in India, is patron to the Buddhist Society.
