Sampler
Woollen canvas worked in polychrome silks in cross stitch with key pattern border, rows of pattern alternately worked with the alphabet and numerals, stylised trees, peacocks. Inscription: "Mary Spencer December 31st 1832". Embroidered with the following verse: "Give to the father praise/Give glory to the Son/And to the Spirit of his Grace/Be equal hono[u]r done". The Doxology in short metre by Isaac Watts (published 1709). Four sides hemmed, backed by an open-weave cotton. Condition: moth eaten, dye from dark green silk has run.
