Sampler
Off white linen canvas worked in blue, gold, red and green silks in cross and running stitches, with the alphabet and numerals, religious text, a stylised house, a duck, trees, crowns. Inscription: "Harrit Turner Decer 7 1814". Four sides hemmed; ends of thread un-neatened on the back. Embroidered with fourth verse of Isaac Watt's hymn (published in 1715) in common metre 'My God who makes the sun to know': "Give me O Lord thy early Grace/ Nor let my Soul complain ays/ That the young Morning of my Day/ Has all been spent in vain". Condition: sound, darning in centre, holes.
