Sampler
Linen sampler, worked in polychrome silks in back, running, double running, cross, montenegrin cross, satin, eyelet and Algerian eye stitch. Selvedges top and bottom, drawn thread hemming on the long sides. Bands of geometric stylised floral motifs, four alphabets, inscribed: 'ELIZABETH MEADOW IS MY NAME AND WIH MY NEEDLE I WROUGHT THE SAME AND IUDA HAYLE WAS MY DAME. EM. OW. THIS SAMPELOAR.' Tablets below enclosing EM + IH, and below 1 I H 6 9 E M 1.
