Printed Ephemera — 1990-1994
Booklet
Booklet with a cover illustration of a mosque. It was purchased in Brick Lane, home of the Jamme Masjid Mosque. Nearby is the larger East London Mosque in Commercial Road, the first purpose-built Muslim place of worship in London. Prominent Muslims funded its construction in 1941, to cater for Muslim sailors. The Mosque was modernised in 1983 to accommodate the permanent Muslim population which had settled in East London. It now holds 2 - 3,000 worshippers and is the only mosque in Britain where the call to prayer comes from the main minaret.
