Printed Ephemera — 1983
The London Peace Pagoda
This booklet is about the London Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park, 1983. That year the Greater London Council (GLC) celebrated GLC Peace Year. The Japanese Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist order offered to contribute to the event by building and consecrating a pagoda in London. They chose a site in Battersea Park by the river Thames. The Buddhist monks wanted to provide a focal point for people to pray for world peace at a time when the nuclear arms race was escalating.
