Save Selim Duzgun from Turkey's Miltary Junta!
Flyer headed 'Save Selim Duzgun from Turkey's Military Junta! Kurdish Rights Activist and Socialist Refused Asylum in Britain'. It details the case of a young Turkish man, Selim Duzgun, a Kurdish rights activist who was being refused political asylum in Britain in 1983. He had joined a socialist organisation whilst at secondary school in Turkey, but following a military coup in 1980 all left wing parties were outlawed. The Kurdish language was banned and people were forbidden from identifying themselves as Kurdish. Duzgun's hometown was taken over by the Turkish army and he escaped to Britain. This leaflet points out that Duzgun could face imprisonment, torture and even execution if sent back to Turkey.
