Westindian World
The leading article in this edition of 'Westindian World' tells how a judge acquitted a 17-year-old West Indian schoolboy of assaulting a policeman. The policeman claimed he saw the schoolboy, Cliff McDaniel, make an indecent gesture, so arrested him. McDaniel was then charged with hitting a policeman. However, two eyewitnesses gave a contradictory account of seeing a group of policemen beating up McDaniel. The newspaper editorial concludes: 'This decision will do much to help restore some of the community's rapidly waning faith in the courts of this country...There have been far too many allegations about police brutality.'
