This photograph shows Jacob C.N. Ugwu at the rostrum at Holborn College of Law. Ugwu was a 28-year-old Nigerian student in the third year of his law degree course. He intended to do a research degree in law in England before returning home to practise in Nigeria. Nigeria became independent in 1960 and needed trained professionals to build up the country’s infrastructure.
