Printed Ephemera — 1995
Amnesty International National Speaker's Tour 1995
This poster produced by Amnesty International promotes a talk given by Gao Peiqi in 1995 concerning human rights violations in China. Peiqi was working as a police officer in China at the time of the Tiananmen Square pro-democracy demonstrations of 1989. He became involved in an organisation helping students to flee. After being discovered, Peiqi was imprisoned and investigated before being released in summer 1990. In 1992 he left China for Hong Kong and claimed asylum, coming to Britain later that year. Peiqi has devoted himself to the overseas democratic movement, and says that 'promoting democracy in China is what I dedicate my life to, treating it as my profession'.
