Photograph, resin coated silver geltain print
Black and white photograph by Miriam Reik showing young Australian travellers with their van, c. 1991. Since the 1950s, London has been a destination for young Australasians travelling overseas to experience British culture for the first time. The short stay visas allotted to the majority encourage a culture based on partying and travel. The visitors support themselves with transient jobs like nannying, nursing, teaching and temping. Many Australasians use London as a starting point for touring around Europe.
