Tongue scraper
This tongue scraper is taken from a travelling kit, which also contains a toothbrush and a tooth powder box. Such kits would often be included in a toiletry case for taking on a journey. Tongue scrapers were used by middle and upper class Londoners from the 1770s. This is a typical example: a U-shaped flexible silver strip that would be held between the thumb and the forefinger. The letters 'MB' have been carved on the bend. These are probably the initials of its former owner.
