Homerton Hospital, Midwife
A mid-wife in the Special Care Baby Unit at Homerton Hospital, May 1988. The Special Care Baby Unit provided 16 cots for premature babies and four for those needing intensive care. The hospital opened with three maternity wards on the first floor, accommodating 90 beds and ten delivery rooms. In October 1987, staff in the unit cared for Britain's second set of surviving sextuplets. The newly-built £20 million hospital opened to patients on 10 July 1987.
