Edward Gerrard working to preserve an animal skeleton
Edward Gerrard is shown here working to preserve an animal skeleton. His father, Edward Gerrard Senior, founded Edward Gerrard & Son's taxidermy firm at 61 College Place, Camden. He had been resident taxidermist at the British Museum and was a friend to the naturalist and geologist Charles Darwin.
Animals were buried in the premises' garden and the skeletons later retrieved. At the Festival of Britain in 1951, three months after this photo was taken, Gerrard's exhibited a life-sized model of a giant sloth.
