Mass rallies like this helped put pressure on the British government to open up a second front on the western European mainland in order to squeeze the German forces who were already fighting the Russians on the eastern front. Assisted by the Americans, the allies eventually did create a second front in Europe starting with the D-Day landing of forces on the Normandy beaches on 6 June 1944.
