Printed Ephemera — 1907
The Holloway Empire Palace
Weekly Theatre programme for the Holloway Empire Music Hall. The programme folded into three sections and printed in shades of red, blue & white includes illustrations of the facade and interior of the theatre. The programme lists the variety performers appearing during the week including the suffragette Kitty Marion and Hadj Abdulla Troupe of pyramid builders.
Kitty Marion combined her career as a music hall artiste with her career as a suffragette militant. She was imprisoned 4 times between 1909 and the end of 1912 for window breaking, arson and other militant activity. During her imprisonments she regularly went on hunger strike and was consequently forcibly fed by the prison authorities, which, on one occasion at least, led to her early release.
