Printed Ephemera — 1926-05-05
Hackney Gazette
This strike bulletin edition of the 'Hackney Gazette' appeared on the first full day of the General Strike. Articles describe arrangements made in preparation for the strike as well as general local news. The bulletin contains an appeal from Hackney's mayor to the 'Angel of Peace' to 'maintain our hope and faith in the good sense of the people'. The news is printed on both sides of a single sheet and includes a message above the main headlines asking readers to share the paper with friends. Since many printers were on strike, newspapers were able to produce only a scaled-down edition and a reduced print-run.
