Abolition and the Threat to Jobs
This fold-out propaganda leaflet, issued by the Greater London Council (GLC), indicates how local government jobs and services will be affected by the council's proposed abolition.
It warns that services such as education and waste disposal will be badly affected, as will London Transport which, it predicts, will increase fares by 25% after abolition. It also warns of a 100% cut in Community Relations services, which would mean an end to such GLC innovations as the Ethnic Minority Unit, the Women's Committee and numerous grant-aided projects.
The leaflet states that the government's attacks on the GLC are attacks on 'the democratic rights of Londoners and their influence on the running of London's services', and urges people to join the 'Democracy for London Campaign' in support of the GLC.
