Children queuing outside a cinema in Portobello Road
A group of children queuing outside the Electric Cinema in Portobello Road, North Kensington, 1957. The Electric opened in 1910 and was one of the country's first purpose-built cinemas. It closed in 1993 and became semi-derelict, but was restored with funding from local resident and founder of the Monsoon clothing chain, Peter Simon, and reopened 2001.
