Working History — C. 1943
Repeater
Repeaters amplify telephone signals travelling long distances underwater so that they remain clear when received at the other end. This submersible repeater was the first experimental model. It was inserted into a large loop of cable that ran from Anglesey into the Irish Sea. It was used to see whether the repeater worked underwater in live test conditions. It proved successful and the results were integrated into the new generation of telephone submarine cables.
