Printed Ephemera — 1975-1980
Certificate, confinement certificate
Dr Barber arrived in London in 1949 as a Jewish refugee, having escaped with his wife from the former Czechoslovakia during the Second World War. From 1956 he worked as a general practitioner from his home surgery at 38 Brookfield Park, Highgate, specialising in midwifery.
Certificates of expected confinement such as this were issued to pregnant women, and were used to claim National Insurance maternity benefits.
