Working History — 1980-1981
Telephone
'Special range' telephones were introduced by Post Office Telecommunications in 1978 in response to consumer demand for more stylish and unusual designs. At the time customers could not purchase telephones but had to rent them from the Post Office. Rental charges for special range telephones were higher and customers had to pay a one-off installation fee.
This special range Astrofon was one of 100 commemorative telephones manufactured by Thorn Ericsson to mark the inauguration of British Telecom on 1 October 1981.
