Working History — 1973-1980
Telephone
700 series telephones were introduced by the General Post Office in 1959. The 746 design was brought in 1967. This became a standard telephone supplied by the Post Office to its customers until the 1980s. In this period telephones had to be rented from the Post Office and were not available to buy.
The Post Office sub-contracted the manufacturing of its telephones to a range of companies. This model 746F telephone was manufactured by Pye TMC at its factory in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire. It was later upgraded at the Post Office factory in Cwmcarn.
