The Suffragette
The Suffragette, July 4th 1913. On the front cover are photographs of Annie Kenney, Geraldine Lennox, Rachel Barrett & Alice Lake. Under the heading 'Cat and Mouse Torture', the lead article refers to the Suffragettes' re-arrest in July under the Prisoner's Temporary Discharge for Ill Health Act (referred to by the suffragettes as the 'Cat and Mouse Act'). This Act allowed all imprisoned suffragettes made ill through hunger-striking to be released temporarily, only to be re-imprisoned once they had recovered. The Suffragettes were serving terms of imprisonment for conspiracy following their arrest during the police raid on WSPU headquarters in April 1913.
