Printed Ephemera — 1939-1959
Poster
This recruitment poster was produced by the Ministry of Labour and National Service for the General Post Office. The profession of telephony was predominantly female. Women were paid around a third less than their male counterparts and had to leave their jobs when they married. The General Post Office preferred female telephonists because the lack of other career options meant a high calibre of recruit.
