Social History — 1960-1990
Doll, national doll
Dr F Barber practised as a GP from 1956. His home at 38 Brookfield Park, today in the borough of Camden, was also his surgery.
Many of Dr Barber's patients were first-generation immigrant families. They established the tradition of giving him gifts of dolls from their homeland dressed in traditional outfits. This female doll represents Saudi Arabia. Dr Barber kept the dolls in his waiting room and let waiting children play with them.
