Social History — 1960-1990
Doll, national doll
Dr F Barber lived at 38 Brookfield Park, now in the borough of Camden. The premises served as both his home and his surgery, where he practised as a GP from 1956.
Many of Dr Barber's patients were first-generation immigrant families. They often gave him, as gifts, national dolls representing their homeland. These joined dolls are dressed in Swiss national costume. Dr Barber kept the dolls in his waiting room and let the waiting children play with them.
