Social History — 1960-1990
Doll, national doll
Dr F Barber lived at 38 Brookfield Park, now in the borough of Camden. The premises served as both his home and his surgery, where he practised as a GP from 1956.
Many of Dr Barber's patients were first-generation immigrant families. They often gave him, as gifts, national dolls representing their homeland. This one is wearing a traditional costume of Cyprus. Dr Barber kept the dolls in his waiting room and let the waiting children play with them.
