Medical suture, umbilical tape
This silk umbilical tape was collected from the surgery of Dr F Barber, who arrived in London in 1949 as a Jewish refugee having escaped from the former Czechoslovakia during World War II. He practised as a GP in London from 1956, specialising in obstetrics, and would have used this tape when delivering babies.
