Printed Ephemera — 1965
The Post Office Tower London
The Post Office Tower was officially opened by the British Prime Minister Harold Wilson on 8 October 1965. It was opened to the public by Postmaster-General Anthony Wedgwood Benn the following year. In his foreword to this brochure, Tony Benn describes the Tower as a 'triumph of modern architecture and engineering'. He goes on to say that 'as landmark, symbol, centre of a modern telecommunication network and a magnet for visitors, the Tower sums up our time.'
The brochure also features a diagram showing the arrangement of microwave relay equipment in the Tower and a list of government contractors and sub-contractors who worked on its construction.
