Printed Ephemera — 1965
Post Office Magazine
The Post Office Tower was opened by the Prime Minister Harold Wilson in 1965 as a symbol of Britain's telecommunications revolution. Wilson made a phone call to the Lord Mayor of Birmingham to mark the operational opening of the Tower. It was opened to the general public the following year by Postmaster-General Anthony Wedgwood Benn. This edition of the Post Office Magazine describes both the opening ceremony and the Tower's operations including its function as a trunk switching centre for both telephone calls and television.
