Printed Ephemera — 1914
London Telephone Service Victoria Telephone Exchange
This pamphlet is an illustrated guide to the newly opened Victoria Telephone Exchange in Westminster. Members of the public could visit the exchange with a friend on any weekday between 10am and 1pm and 2pm and 4pm. They would be shown round by a General Post Office official.
The guide shows different areas of the exchange including the Apparatus Room, the Switchroom and the Telephonists' Sitting Room. Descriptions of the relay racks and distributing frames provide technical information about the equipment. 'Hints to Subscribers' set out the sequence of actions needed to make a call. There is also a reminder to hang up the receiver when the telephone is not in use.
