Le The au Lyons
This print, 'Le The Au Lyons' is one in a series of 21 hand-coloured etchings by Charles Laborde published in 'Rue et Visages de Londres' (London Streets and Faces), with text by Pierre MacOrlan. Laborde was a French illustrator who became well known for his witty depictions of modern life throughout Europe. Each etching in this folio depicts a satirical view of London street life in the 1920s and shows Laborde's fascination with the London crowd. Here Laborde satirises the huge popularity of London's tea shops run by the catering firm J. Lyons & Company.
