Social History — 1953
Flag
A Union Jack flag in red, white and blue cotton. One edge is crudely sewn around a wooden stick with a round knob at the end. The other edges are now frayed. The flag was used to decorate the front of a house in London's East End to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953. A similar flag and stick was advertised in the coronation catalogue of retailer Woolworth's (F. W. Woolworth & Co. Ltd.).
