Emily Wilding Davison - a memorial service
Programme for a service held at St George's Church, Bloomsbury Square, on 14th June 1914 on the first anniversary of the death of the Suffragette Emily Wilding Davison. Emily was killed in June 1913 during an attempt to disrupt proceedings at the Derby racecourse. A member of the Women's Social and Political Union since 1906, she became immortalised in history as a martyr to the suffragette cause.
St George's, Bloomsbury had been the setting for Emily's dramatic and spectacular funeral service on 14th June 1913. The service held in 1914, to which this programme refers, would have been attended by many Suffragettes who took part in the original funeral service the previous year, one of whom annoted the programme by hand.
