Visitor's book of La Tour Eiffel Restaurant. La Tour Eiffel was founded in 1908 at 1 Percy Street by the Austrian chef Rudolph Stulik. Located in 'Fitzrovia', then the centre of London's German community, Stulik's restaurant became a famous meeting place for poets, painters, intellectuals, musicians and bohemians.The visitors book includes the signature of some of the many famous celebrities, writers and politicians who dined at the restaurant between 1921 and 1937. These include Charlie Chaplin, Aldous Huxley, Nancy Cunard, Augustus John, Noel Coward and Bertrand Russell. Many of the artist customers left drawings in the book along with their signatures. In October 1921 the book records the signatures of Michael Collins and the deputation of Irish republicans who were in London to negotiate the treaty that created the Irish Free State. Stulik retired as proprietor in 1931. He kept the visitors' book as a souvenir and it was given to the Museum by his grandson.
