Mrs. Hannah Robertson
Letterpress trade card publicising the business of Mrs Hannah Robertson, Artificial Flower Maker and Fancy Trimmer located at 331 Strand. The card notes that Mrs Robertson has 'had the Honour of Teaching several of the First Nobility in England and Scotland, likewise the Governesses of the Boarding Schools in Edinburgh, the following Branches: Fillagree in all its Branches; Flowers of all Kinds in stained Cambrick, Paper, Tiffany, Combed Flosk Silk, or Isinglass. Gold and Silver Flowers similar to those from Madeira. Birds done in Silk and Paper so as to imitate in their beautiful and varigated Colours, Nature. Embroidery of all Kinds taught. Fillagree paper, & c. for making any of the above Articles, furnished at the shortest Notice. Painted Trimmings of all Kinds for Gowns & c. Grown up Ladies waited on at their own Apartments'. Mrs Robertson (1724-1800) lived in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, York and Northampton before moving to London in 1782. In 1791 she wrote a short autobiography 'The Life of Mrs Robertson', in which she describes her shop as being 'the first of the kind in London for various works of fancy'.
