Blotter, ink blotter
Rocking desk ink blotter of lacquered wood decorated with a green, brown and yellow design. Ink blotters were an essential item of office equipment until the late 20th century. After handwriting a document, the blotter was rolled onto the paper's surface where it could absorb excess ink, preventing the writing from smearing.
