Pistol, boxlock flintlock pistol
Pistols fitted with brass barrels were often favoured by travellers because they were resistant to rust. This pistol is fitted with a flintlock firing mechanism. The black powder which was used to ignite the charge in the barrel could become wet in adverse weather conditions. In the event of a misfire, it is fitted with a spring-loaded bayonet which is released by pulling the trigger guard backwards.
