Dance pavilion, Festival Pleasure Gardens, Battersea
Photographic postcard of the Dance Pavilion at the Festival Pleasure Gardens, Battersea Park, for the Festival of Britain, 1951. The Dance Pavilion was designed by James Gardner, and was said to be the largest pole tent ever erected in the world. It was made by Benjamin Edgington. As it was near the fireworks platform, it also had a 'rain' fountain at the top so that the tent could be wetted before firework displays to prevent it catching fire.
